Direct Loan Forgiveness
Forgiveness is built into the standard structure of the William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan Program: any balance remaining at the end of your loan term, or after the maximum repayment period under an income-driven plan, is forgiven.
Who qualifies
- You hold Direct Subsidized, Unsubsidized, PLUS, or Direct Consolidation Loans.
- You've been on an income-driven repayment plan for the required number of years (typically 20–25).
- Your balance hasn't already been paid off before the forgiveness date.
How National Advisory helps
We review your loan type and repayment history, confirm which income-driven plan puts you closest to forgiveness, and keep your annual income recertification on schedule so your forgiveness clock never resets.
