Public Service Loan Forgiveness
Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) forgives the remaining balance on Direct Loans after 120 qualifying monthly payments — 10 years — while working full-time for a qualifying government or nonprofit employer.
Who qualifies
- You have Direct Loans (or have consolidated other federal loans into a Direct Consolidation Loan).
- You work full-time for a U.S. federal, state, local, or tribal government agency, or a qualifying 501(c)(3) nonprofit.
- You're on a qualifying repayment plan, most commonly an income-driven plan.
- You've made 120 qualifying payments — they don't need to be consecutive.
How National Advisory helps
We confirm your employer and loan type actually qualify, get you onto a qualifying repayment plan if you aren't already, submit and track your PSLF Employment Certification each year, and flag any payment-count discrepancies with your servicer before they cost you time.
