Teacher Loan Forgiveness
Teachers who complete five complete and consecutive years of qualifying teaching at a low-income school or educational service agency can have $5,000–$17,500 of their Direct or FFEL loan principal forgiven.
Who qualifies
- You've taught full-time for five complete, consecutive academic years.
- At least one of those years was after the 1997–98 academic year.
- Your school qualifies as low-income under the federal Teacher Cancellation Low Income (TCLI) Directory.
- You were not in default on the loans you're seeking forgiveness for.
How National Advisory helps
We verify your school's low-income eligibility year by year, help assemble the certification your school must sign, and file the application once your five years are complete.
