Total and Permanent Disability Discharge
Borrowers who become totally and permanently disabled can have their federal student loans fully discharged, relieving them of any further obligation to repay.
Who qualifies
- A physician certifies you're unable to engage in substantial gainful activity due to a physical or mental impairment expected to last at least 60 months or result in death.
- You're a veteran with a service-connected disability rated by the VA as 100% disabling.
- You receive Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits with a qualifying next scheduled disability review.
How National Advisory helps
We help you determine which documentation path applies to your situation (physician certification, VA, or SSA), gather the required paperwork, and submit the discharge application to the loan servicer handling TPD claims.
